Still Catching Up

I probably should be doing something else...working on 3 papers I have due, making dinner, etc. But posting a new blog while watching some of my favorite t.v. shows is just much more exciting. So, here is a quick recap of our spring break in Vegas. We left for Sunday evening after Matt got off work. Before we had even reached 10600 S. we had a speeding ticket scare. All the sudden I hear Matt say a not very nice word and look in his rear view mirror. Surprised, I ask "what?" and he says he just passed a cop without realizing or slowing down. We look back again and this is similar to what we saw catching up to us.Well, maybe that's an exaggeration but the cop was hauling some serious booty. Luckily the cop pulled over the car driving in front of us or that would NOT have been a good way to start off our trip. Anyway, we spent the rest of our drive ticket free and made it to my parent's house in St. George at about 10:30. The next morning we headed into Las Vegas and stopped at Fashion Show mall before we checked in at the Excalibur.
This was only the second time I've ever been to Vegas to stay and not just be passing through. We tried to make the most of each day there and of course, me being the buffet lover that I am, we had to eat at a variety of them. If any of you haven't been to the World Carnival buffet at The Rio, I highly recommend it. We also went to the M&M and Coca-Cola stores, a car show at Imperial Palace, saw the Blue Man Group, went to Madame Tussaud's wax museum, and did our fair share of walking - which was needed after the buffets. We also hit up some slot machines. Matt enjoyed this more than I did. I wasn't ever very lucky and usually ended up losing my money quickly. I realized gambling just makes me grumpy.
Unfortunately, we won this and then lost it...plus some more.
We did have fun taking pictures with the "celebrities" at the wax museum though.

Hello Tim McGraw!
Us enjoying the tastes around the world at the Coca-Cola store. Some of them were very interesting. One almost made me gag!

This is Matt driving the first time we decided to take the car. We thought it would be a good idea so that we didn't have to walk back to Excalibur at 12:30 a.m. after seeing Blue Man Group. Too bad it took us more than an hour in traffic to drive about a mile on the strip. So, we decided to walk EVERYWHERE after that. We definitely got some exercise while in Vegas...and the blisters on my feet to prove it!

Catching Up

Since I started my blog I've found that there isn't a lot to blog about lately...or maybe there is and I just don't realize it. So, in an effort to keep this going and get in the hang of posting things, I'm going to go back a couple months to Matt's birthday in February.

Because of a test he had the next day, Matt hadn't planned to do much on his birthday besides go to school and come home to do some hardcore studying. When he came home from classes I gave him his birthday present (hockey tickets for another night) and I managed to talk him into taking a break from studying in order to at least go out to dinner. This turned out to be not such a great idea since both of us ended up sick from the food. Needless to say, the day didn't turn out so happy for him. Good thing I secretly started planning a party a few weeks before that was to take place the next night.

In order to get Matt out of the house Friday, I asked his parents to tell Matt he needed to go to their house that night in order to sort out taxes and I told Matt I couldn't go with him because I was working at the last minute. So right before Matt went to his parents', I left for "work." I went to the grocery store to get some snacks and then to Costco to pick up the cake and some pizzas. I hurried home (which was not easy with all the traffic) and after bringing everything in, began to decorate the cake. I know, this is strange since I bought a cake, but I wanted to do a Subaru emblem which Costco couldn't create. Anyway, the cake took longer than expected. But a few of the guests ended up coming early and were nice enough to help me with decorating and setting up food.

The surprise party turned out to be a success. Matt had no idea anything was going on (even after someone's invite got returned in the mail) and it definitely made up for his not so happy birthday the previous day. After cake, we headed over to Fastkart for some racing. It was a fun time and I'm so glad that Matt didn't ever catch me being sneaky.

Here's some of the people that attended. This is only about half of the group but unfortunately I forgot to keep the camera out as people came. Thanks Andrea for taking this one!

What's with the name?

I'm assuming if most of you are reading this you'll have wondered what's up with the name I chose for the website address to the blog. So I figured, what would make a better post than explaining my choice of URL? Just to warn you ahead of time, this won't be all that interesting...not that any of my future posts will be much better either. If this is going to be a problem for you, stop now.

Ok, and now for the people still reading, we'll start with my very short explanation on Spiffy. It just happens to be a totally nifty word I use to describe things and I thought it went well with the rest of the words for my URL. Hence, you have Spiffy.

Now on to the word worth more explaining - Smatt. A few years ago our wonderful brother-in-law Erik decided to start referring to us as Smatt. I'm guessing because Matt and I were always together everywhere and had been for a long time, that Erik thought we had just meshed into one. The new word used to define us was even popular enough to be used by both our nephews as well. And there you have it, Smatt encompasses both Matt and I in one word. I thought it was fitting since this blog will be about us.

Oh, and as for the somethings...that's just used to define what will be in the blog, "somethings."
