Because of a test he had the next day, Matt hadn't planned to do much on his birthday besides go to school and come home to do some hardcore studying. When he came home from classes I gave him his birthday present (hockey tickets for another night) and I managed to talk him into taking a break from studying in order to at least go out to dinner. This turned out to be not such a great idea since both of us ended up sick from the food. Needless to say, the day didn't turn out so happy for him. Good thing I secretly started planning a party a few weeks before that was to take place the next night.
In order to get Matt out of the house Friday, I asked his parents to tell Matt he needed to go to their house that night in order to sort out taxes and I told Matt I couldn't go with him because I was working at the last minute. So right before Matt went to his parents', I left for "work." I went to the grocery store to get some snacks and then to Costco to pick up the cake and some pizzas. I hurried home (which was not easy with all the traffic) and after bringing everything in, began to decorate the cake. I know, this is strange since I bought a cake, but I wanted to do a Subaru emblem which Costco couldn't create. Anyway, the cake took longer than expected. But a few of the guests ended up coming early and were nice enough to help me with decorating and setting up food.
The surprise party turned out to be a success. Matt had no idea anything was going on (even after someone's invite got returned in the mail) and it definitely made up for his not so happy birthday the previous day. After cake, we headed over to Fastkart for some racing. It was a fun time and I'm so glad that Matt didn't ever catch me being sneaky.
