It was a fun Saturday

Such a fun Saturday that the day requires two posts. This probably should have come before my last post since it happened first but oh well. My mind doesn't always work in order.

So yesterday both Matt and I were able to take the day off in order to go to a Subaru meet. Matt has always been really into cars, and no matter what car he owns at the time, he's always customizing it somehow and finding others who do the same. So, for those of you who aren't familiar with the term "Subaru meet" here it is.

Subaru Meet - When various Subaru owners meet up in a designated place with their cars and hang out while talking Subaru lingo and discussing their most recent additions on a car. Lots of picture taking occurs.

Yesterday just happened to be the largest Subaru meet of the year. It is hosted annually by Mark Miller Subaru on 37th and state. They clear the car lot and allow all of the drivers to park their cars. From 12-3 no other cars are allowed on the lot except Subarus. Over 100 of them showed up. It was pretty neat to see so many all in one place. During those few hours they do a food drive and give out free t-shirts for people who donate. They also did a free BBQ for everyone who attended, so we got free lunch. Yay! They also coordinate a "Subaru cruise" for after the meet so a lot of cars drove to Mirror Lake together.

The weather was pretty much a downpour, but it didn't stop people from showing up and walking around to look at everyone else's cars.

And for those of you who are curious what Matt's car looks like...

Monkey Sleepover

Today we met my parents and my two nephews for dinner. We decided to have my youngest nephew, Milo, come back with us for a sleepover. Mason had come over about a week ago for his sleepover, so we figured today could be Milo's turn.

After dinner we headed to Shopko to get a few things for his stay. Lately Milo has been into doing puzzles, so we hit up the toy aisle and found him a Spiderman and Transformers puzzle. Next we walked around until we found the aisle with pull-ups to get his "night-time undies." Last, we headed to the candy section for Milo to pick out a treat. His response upon getting to the candy - "Now lets see what we have here." Once he picked out a bag of swedish fish, we went to the line to checkout. All the while walking very slow because Milo had insisted on holding his own bag of pull-ups. We got to the check out counter and told Milo to put the pull-ups on the counter so that that checker could scan it. Next thing I know, he is swinging the pull-ups onto the counter and with a big grin he exclaims "Here's my night-time undies!" Both Matt and I laughed and the teenage guy checking us out responded by laughing and saying, "cool." Milo even showed the checker where the price scan was.

We left Shopko and continued our drive home - which was loaded with questions, one of them being "Why is your apartment so small?" We got home, had Milo take a shower and get into pajamas and then let him watch a movie while also working on the Transformers puzzle and eating some swedish fish. After the movie was over we set up the couch for him to sleep on. A little after putting him to bed, Matt peeked out our bedroom to see if he was sleeping yet. Matt started laughing and motioned for me to come over. There we were, standing in the doorway listening to Milo sing to himself and peeking at him while he played the air drums. He's one pretty cool kid.

Funny Youtube

I saw this on Ellen today. Matt and I were debating on whether or not it's real. I think it is. Real or not, it's funny.

Enjoy!

Today

6/10/08 seems far away at times and other days it seems like it hasn't been so long. One year ago around this same time I had just arrived home from a day at American Fork after telling Erik that I would see him tomorrow. And although Matt and I did go back the next day, we did not see Erik again.

It's interesting how one day can give the feeling that I'm walking around constantly putting salt on a wound. And I know I'm not even one of those whose life is most affected by it.

I am lucky to have known Erik. I am grateful for the things he taught Matt and I, and the random advice he always gave. And I am very very thankful that Erik was here for our wedding.

We think about you all the time and we miss you every day.

My scale must be broken

So I asked for a scale for Christmas. (weird request, I know) Anyway, I hadn't used it much, but a couple weeks ago I decided to satisfy my curiosity. BAD IDEA. I found that I had gained a horrifying 14 pounds (Can you say gross? Say it with me, GROSS!) since I've been married. This isn't the good "my muscles are getting stronger weight" either since I'm pretty sure I can feel my arms jiggle sometimes while I'm working - gross again. With that awful number nagging me, I decided to start trying to work out at home and eat better. And I'll tell you, working out without a gym is hard to do!
So if you can imagine, I've been trying every other day to jog/run in place for about 30 minutes and then do various exercises for the next 30 minutes all while watching entertaining tv shows. Now, I'm not really used to having an exercise routine other than what we'd do for conditioning during cheer practices. So the first day I basically tried to do everything I could think of in the same amounts as I did when I was cheering and tumbling (AKA in-shape). Needless to say I felt like passing out right after and pretty much couldn't move the next day. I woke up one morning and nearly fell over trying to straighten my legs and then Matt asked me why I was walking like a penguin.
